‘THEY WERE HIRING IDIOTS’: FBI Agent Explains How DEI Split The Agency and Led to Disaster

Once-proud American institutions have been hollowed out by years of left-wing ideology, and few examples are as stark as the FBI, according to former special agent Nicole Parker.
Parker, a 12-year FBI veteran, says the bureau was fundamentally transformed by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) mandates that replaced merit, competence, and mission readiness with identity politics and quotas. The result, she argues, was the emergence of “two FBIs”: one committed to integrity, professionalism, and protecting the public, and another consumed by performative priorities and political agendas.
In her new book, The Two FBIs, Parker details how this shift began under President Barack Obama and intensified under President Joe Biden. As DEI targets became institutionalized, she says hiring standards deteriorated and morale collapsed. Under FBI Director Christopher Wray, Parker claims unqualified recruits were brought in to satisfy diversity metrics rather than operational needs.
Parker, who worked major violent crime investigations, human trafficking cases, active shooter responses, and manhunts, connects this cultural transformation directly to real-world consequences. She recounts that in the days leading up to the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Florida, FBI leadership attention was focused on diversity events rather than acting decisively on credible threat tips.
According to Parker, Director Wray attended a Diversity Agent Recruitment event just nine days before the shooting, less than 30 miles from Parkland. She believes that misplaced priorities—emphasizing DEI over training, competence, and accountability—may have contributed to failures that cost lives.
“I had to tell parents their child was dead when it could have been prevented,” Parker said, recalling her role delivering death notifications after the attack that killed 17 students and staff. “In my mind, the improper prioritization of diversity might have cost those lives.”
Parker joined the FBI in 2010 after leaving a career on Wall Street, motivated in part by witnessing the September 11 attacks from the World Financial Center in New York. What she encountered over time, she writes, was an agency increasingly obsessed with internal diversity initiatives—new committees, clubs, and events—while core responsibilities such as counterterrorism and violent crime prevention were sidelined.
By 2015, “diversity” was formally designated a core FBI value, a move Parker argues had little to do with the bureau’s mission of protecting the American people. Under the Biden administration, she says, the situation worsened dramatically.
“Hiring standards dropped to meet quotas,” Parker said bluntly. “It was noticeable.”
After years of growing disillusionment, Parker left the FBI in 2022, concluding that the institution she joined no longer existed. Her account paints a portrait of an agency weakened by ideology, politicized from within, and increasingly incapable of fulfilling its foundational mission.
President Trump’s move to dismantle DEI across the federal government, Parker says, comes too late for the damage already done—but not too late to prevent further decline.
