Dinner out turns into an uncomfortable public prayer display

DEAR ABBY:
About six months ago, I started organizing a group dinner for the wives of my husband’s poker buddies. At first, it was a lot of fun. Recently, however, a new member of the group has begun initiating prayer in the restaurant, including asking everyone to hold hands.

This practice makes several of us uncomfortable. It isn’t my style, and I’m very private about the spiritual side of my life. One woman in the group is agnostic. While I believe her intentions are kind, we feel awkward and somewhat pressured to participate, and we’re unsure how to address it without hurting her feelings.

What would be a tactful and respectful way to ask her to stop?
