Sensor light illuminates more than one problem
Dear Abby:
My wife and I have lived in a country home for 25 years. When we moved here, our only neighbors were wild turkeys, deer, and raccoons. Behind our house were 20 acres of woods that stretched into a cornfield. We cherished the isolation.
Over time, a housing development gradually surrounded us. Last fall, a couple built a house directly behind us, with their deck just 20 feet from our property line. Large bedroom windows face our backyard, and they removed all the mature trees that once provided privacy.
I’ve had a dusk-to-dawn security light at the rear of our house for 25 years to deter wildlife. Now, this couple is complaining that the light shines into their bedroom and want me to remove it.
My instinct is that we were here first, and they knew what they were buying when they built so close and cut down their trees. I’m not eager to change anything, but I’m open to suggestions.
