A Chicago man who avoided jail time after a series of violent robberies escaped from his ankle monitor and was later arrested for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl, authorities say.

Davaughn Credit, 21, was released on pretrial supervision last year by Chicago Judge David Kelly. Last month, he went missing from his monitoring program and was later located at a home in Indiana, where he allegedly abused a young girl he met on Snapchat, according to CWB Chicago.

The girl’s mother reported to police that her daughter left their Chicago home without permission on Nov. 21, with her phone showing a location about 80 miles away in Rensselaer, Indiana. The family feared she may have been with Credit, according to an affidavit obtained by Region News Source. The following night, an adult sibling found the girl appearing “high or intoxicated” and rushed her to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital.

The girl told authorities that Credit, whom she referred to as “Day Day,” touched her inappropriately during her time at the Indiana home. She said they had communicated via Snapchat, where Credit’s account displayed his name.

Credit was found at the home on Dec. 5. After refusing to leave the bedroom where he had been staying for roughly 20 minutes, he was taken into custody on outstanding robbery and escape warrants, according to the Rensselaer Police Department. Police also discovered marijuana and cocaine in the bedroom.

Indiana prosecutors charged Credit with child molestation, possession of cocaine, and possession of marijuana. Authorities also arrested six others at the home on various charges, including drug possession.

Credit had previously been charged with four counts of robbery and one count of aggravated battery following a two-hour crime spree in Chicago on Nov. 24, 2024. The spree began at the 79th Street Red Line station, where Credit and accomplices stole a victim’s headphones, and continued with a series of robberies targeting a 57-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and another man who was forcibly robbed after being dragged to the ground.

The suspects were arrested shortly afterward at the Addison Red Line station, with police reportedly recovering a pistol-shaped taser.

The Cook County State Attorney’s Office has been contacted for further comment.
