DoorDash driver accused of pepper-spraying customer’s Arby’s order, resulting in wife falling ill
A DoorDash driver has been permanently banned from the app after allegedly spraying an order with pepper spray, causing a customer to become seriously ill.
The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday in Evansville, Indiana, and was captured on a doorbell camera outside the home of Mark and Mandy Cardin. The driver, who has not been charged with a crime, was delivering an Arby’s order when she appeared to tamper with the food.

According to the footage, the blue-haired driver snapped a confirmation photo before pulling an object from her pocket and spraying the order. She then returned the item to her jacket and walked away, all while the couple watched from their doorbell camera.
Unaware the food had been tampered with, the Cardins brought it inside and began eating. Moments later, Mandy started struggling to breathe.

“I noticed my wife had started eating, and she began choking and gasping. After a couple of bites, she actually threw up,” Mark Cardin told WFIE.
Upon inspecting the food, Mark noticed evidence of tampering. “I had a look at the bag and saw that there was some kind of spray or something. The bag had been tampered with. So I pulled up my doorbell camera and saw that the lady who dropped the food off had actually tampered with it on purpose for some reason,” he said.

Mark posted photos and videos of the driver on Facebook in an attempt to identify her. He also tried to contact her via the app but discovered she had already blocked him. He reported the incident to DoorDash, and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation. Authorities are considering charging the driver with consumer product tampering, a level 6 felony that could be elevated if harm resulted.
“I definitely want to see her prosecuted,” Cardin said, noting that they had never met the driver and had even left a tip before the incident.

DoorDash confirmed that the driver has been permanently removed from the platform. “We have zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior. The Dasher in question has been permanently removed from the platform, and our team is standing by to support law enforcement with any investigation,” a spokesperson told The Post.
Mark Cardin said he is unsure exactly what substance was used on the food but fears it could have been more dangerous than pepper spray. “It’s horrific. We assume it’s pepper spray, but now in this day and age it could’ve been anything—rat poison, fentanyl. My wife could have been dead,” he said.
Reflecting on the incident, Cardin expressed concern for other food delivery users. “We live in a terrible world right now. People are mean for no reason. There was no reason to do what she did,” he said, advising others to be cautious.
“I would say to anybody, if you order food on any kind of delivery service, make sure you have a doorbell,” he added. “This is making me second guess ever ordering food from anywhere ever again.”
