ICE Launches Armed Raids Across Minnesota Targeting Illegal Somali Nationals Wanted on Federal Warrants

ICE has begun conducting arrests in a Minnesota region with a large Somali immigrant population, according to reporting by Katie Daviscourt of The Post Millennial.

The enforcement activity follows comments made during a Tuesday press conference, where Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed reports of masked individuals detaining people in predominantly Somali neighborhoods. O’Hara said residents should call 911 if they encounter law-enforcement activity they do not recognize, adding that police officers have a duty to intervene if they witness violations of civil or human rights.

“If there is anything that is a violation of someone’s human rights or civil rights, excessive force, or anything like that, they absolutely have a duty to intervene as police officers,” O’Hara said.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also spoke at the briefing, criticizing the federal enforcement actions and reiterating that city policy prohibits the Minneapolis Police Department from cooperating with ICE on civil immigration enforcement. Their remarks come amid media reports that ICE is preparing a large-scale enforcement operation targeting Somali illegal immigrants in the Twin Cities area.

According to the New York Times, approximately 100 federal agents from across the country have been deployed as part of the immigration enforcement effort.

Daviscourt reports that ICE agents arrested several criminal illegal aliens during an operation conducted Saturday. Local Democratic officials, she notes, have characterized the arrests as “kidnappings,” a claim disputed by federal sources.

According to sources cited by Daviscourt, those targeted were apprehended pursuant to warrants. One male suspect allegedly assaulted officers before being taken into custody. A female suspect who had previously been deported reportedly fled into a residence, leading to her apprehension and multiple related arrests.

Daviscourt obtained exclusive video footage of the raid.
