President Trump and First Lady Melania Light National Christmas Tree to Massive Applause (VIDEO)
Melania Trump appeared in a winter white coat paired with navy gloves as the ceremony marked the 103rd year of the annual tradition.
“Melania and I are thrilled to wish everybody here tonight, and Americans all across this land, a very Merry Christmas,” Trump said. He went on to express appreciation for people across the country, saying, “I want to pay my deepest respect and love to all of our great citizens — like 350 million people. We love them all… We have to take care of everybody in our country.” He also quoted scripture and offered a holiday message to Christians.
Trump took time during his remarks to honor two National Guard members who were shot earlier this week. “They paid, in one case, the ultimate [price], and the other, Andrew, is getting better. Sarah unfortunately is watching from above, watching from heaven,” he said. He added that he had met Andrew’s parents earlier in the day, praising their strength and love for the country.
“During this holy season, Christians everywhere rejoice at the miracle in Bethlehem more than 2,000 years ago when the Son of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, came down from heaven to be with us,” Trump said. He reflected on the symbolism of the illuminated tree, referencing the Gospel of John: “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

“With the birth of Jesus, human history turned from night to day,” Trump continued. “His word and His example call us to love one another, to serve one another, and to honor the sacred truth that every child is specially made in the image of God.”
