CNN commentator Scott Jennings criticized Democratic lawmakers this week after they accused President Donald Trump of issuing “illegal orders” — a claim they were unable to back up with specific examples when questioned.
Rather than citing real incidents, several top Democrats shifted to referencing Hollywood movie scenarios to illustrate what could happen. The comments followed the release of a video by six Democratic lawmakers with military backgrounds, in which they warned that the U.S. military could refuse to follow unlawful commands.
In the video, Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan said, “Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this Constitution. Right now, threats to our Constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home.” The group emphasized that under U.S. law, service members are obligated to reject orders that are illegal or violate established statutes.
Democrats accused the President of giving “illegal orders,” challenging service members to defy the duly elected commander-in-chief.
