I’m getting threatening texts from my fiance’s parents
Dear Amy,
I recently became engaged to my boyfriend, Harry. We’ve been together for three years, and I love him deeply.
However, I’m struggling with his parents, who seem to dislike me. They often act in passive-aggressive ways and have even sent me threatening messages, including: “Don’t get married to my son” and “You’re a bad influence on my son.” They’ve also said they won’t attend the wedding and have recently cut off all communication with Harry.
Harry has always been very close to his father, and this lack of contact has been affecting him. Although he insists he’s fine, I can tell he’s not.
Unfortunately, he often directs his frustration toward me, blaming me for the strain in his relationship with his parents. He refuses to discuss it, and when I try, he sometimes ignores me for hours until I apologize. This has been very hurtful, and I’ve even considered canceling the wedding.
At the same time, I understand that he’s under immense pressure. I’m unsure how to navigate this situation and could really use some guidance.
