Katy Perry Wants M From Mansion’s Former Owner

Katy Perry is asking for $5 million to be deducted from the purchase price of her $15 million Montecito mansion after years of being unable to move in. Court documents filed Friday show the pop star is seeking $3.5 million in lost rental value and $1.3 million for repairs from the home’s previous owner, 1-800-Flowers founder Carl Westcott, intensifying a long-running legal battle over the high-profile property, according to People.

Perry and her former partner Orlando Bloom bought the home in July 2020, but Westcott quickly filed a lawsuit attempting to cancel the deal, claiming he lacked the mental capacity to sell. Reports indicated he suffered from Huntington’s disease and dementia, according to Fox News.

A judge ruled in Perry’s favor in May 2024, determining that Westcott—who reportedly purchased the home for $11.25 million just two months before selling it to the couple—was “coherent, engaged, lucid and rational” at the time of the sale. The ruling allowed Perry to take possession of the property, but it did not resolve the financial dispute.

Westcott maintains that Perry still owes $6 million of the original sale price, having paid only $9 million so far. He argues that after factoring in repair costs, she should pay him $5.7 million. Perry, in turn, is seeking just over $4.8 million from Westcott, noting that his reported losses of $149,703 should be deducted from that total. It remains unclear whether Perry ever moved into the mansion, where she and Bloom had planned to raise their 5-year-old daughter, Daisy.
