The University of Minnesota’s Culture and Family Lab has published a webpage warning of what it calls a “Whiteness Pandemic,” offering guidance for how individuals should work to “halt and reverse” the problem.

According to the site, the so-called “Whiteness Pandemic” is described as a cultural—not biological—force that includes “colorblindness, passivity, and White fragility,” which the lab labels as “covert expressions of racism” in the United States. The page attempts to link this concept to broader claims from public-health framing, arguing that racism itself is an epidemic and that “Whiteness” is the root cause behind it.

The lab claims that the issue begins within families, stating that children raised in White households are “socialized into the culture of Whiteness” from birth. It further insists that “no one has escaped this pandemic,” suggesting that anyone raised in the U.S. has been affected by it. White Americans, the site says, carry “power and privilege” and therefore bear a special responsibility to undo what the lab calls the “Whiteness Pandemic.”

Parents are urged to “re-educate” themselves and their children. The webpage insists that adults must continually self-reflect, reshape their identity, and practice what it calls “courageous antiracist parenting/caregiving.”

The project is financially supported by the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota, the National Institute of Mental Health, a Provost Research Fellowship from the University of Minnesota, and an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Fellowship from the university.

Parents’ rights organization Defending Education highlighted the website as part of a broader pattern of ideological initiatives that have fueled controversy in Minneapolis, a city already grappling with multiple scandals in recent years.

On Friday, President Trump announced the immediate termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali nationals—a decision that paves the way for rapid deportations within Minnesota, including in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district. The move comes amid concerns over rising crime and the massive Feeding Our Future Medicaid fraud scandal that has shaken the state.
