Football Player for University of Alabama in Birmingham, Prior to Game, Allegedly Stabs Two Fellow Players
Two University of Alabama at Birmingham football players were allegedly stabbed by a teammate early Saturday morning, just hours before the team’s scheduled matchup against South Florida.
The incident occurred inside UAB’s Football Operations Center, the primary training facility for the Blazers. University officials said both injured players were taken for treatment and are currently in stable condition. Their names have not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
Fox News Digital reported that an online search of the Jefferson County Jail showed 20-year-old Daniel Israel Mincey in custody. Mincey, listed on UAB’s football roster as a freshman, is believed to be the suspect in the attack.
“We’re grateful to report that two players injured in an incident this morning at the Football Operations Building are in stable condition. Our thoughts are with them and their families as they recover,” the university said in a statement. “The suspect—another player—remains in custody, and an investigation is taking place.”
Despite the timing of the stabbing, the university decided to proceed with the game against South Florida as scheduled. A school spokesperson emphasized that student safety remains their top priority but said no further details could be released while the investigation continues.
