President Trump sharply confronted ABC News correspondent Mary Bruce during a Tuesday press conference alongside Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, after Bruce questioned both leaders about business ties and the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Bruce opened the exchange by asking whether it was appropriate for the President’s family to conduct business in Saudi Arabia while he is in office, framing it as a potential conflict of interest. She also pressed the Crown Prince over U.S. intelligence findings that concluded he had approved the 2018 killing of Khashoggi — an event that strained U.S.-Saudi relations and kept him from visiting the United States until now.

According to the New York Times, the visit marks a major diplomatic shift for the Crown Prince, who has not been on U.S. soil since 2018. Under the Biden administration, U.S. intelligence released an assessment assigning responsibility for Khashoggi’s death to the Crown Prince, though no direct action was taken at the time.

President Trump dismissed Bruce’s line of questioning, calling ABC “fake news” before responding. He emphasized that he stepped away from his business interests upon taking office and said his family’s dealings in Saudi Arabia have been minimal. He also defended the Crown Prince, saying the question was disrespectful to a visiting head of state.

Bin Salman, in his response, argued that efforts to damage U.S.–Saudi relations echo the goals of Osama bin Laden, stressing that the two countries’ partnership is vital for combating extremism and maintaining global security. Addressing the Khashoggi case, he described the killing as a painful tragedy and said Saudi Arabia has taken corrective measures to prevent similar incidents.

Later in the press conference, Bruce attempted to question President Trump about the pending release of the Epstein files — an issue the President has urged Congress to act on. Trump pivoted back to her earlier question, criticizing Bruce personally and accusing ABC News of political bias. He suggested the network should lose its broadcasting license, citing what he described as consistently inaccurate and negative coverage.

On the Epstein matter, President Trump reiterated that he had severed ties with Jeffrey Epstein long before Epstein’s criminal conduct became public. He argued that the media focuses disproportionately on him instead of high-profile Democrats whom he claims were closely associated with Epstein, including Bill Clinton, former Harvard president Larry Summers, and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman. The President labeled the controversy a “Democrat hoax” intended to distract from economic issues.

Concluding the exchange, President Trump told Bruce he would take no further questions from her.
