A 27-year-old woman was stabbed in the chest during a random attack late Saturday night on a Chicago train platform near the University of Illinois Chicago, authorities said.
According to a community alert from the Chicago Police Department, the assault occurred around 11:14 p.m. on November 8, 2025, in the 400 block of South Halsted Street. Investigators say the attacker produced a large knife from his backpack, approached the woman as she sat on a bench, and stabbed her in the chest without warning.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot, heading northbound on South Morgan Street, police said. He remains at large.
The victim sustained a laceration to the chest and was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, according to police. Authorities described the suspect as a Black male, approximately six feet tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds.
Fox News reports the attack happened at the UIC-Halsted Blue Line platform and that police are continuing to search for the assailant.
Saturday night’s stabbing comes just months after another tragic incident shocked the nation — the murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was fatally stabbed aboard a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Over the summer, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr. repeatedly stabbed Zarutska as bystanders failed to intervene. Brown, whose criminal record dates back to 2007, was arrested and charged in federal court.
The Department of Justice announced that Brown faces the maximum possible sentence — life in prison or the death penalty — under a federal statute covering fatal acts on public transportation.
“Iryna Zarutska was a young woman living the American dream — her horrific murder is a direct result of failed soft-on-crime policies that put criminals before innocent people,” said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement.
The surge in violent, unprovoked attacks across major U.S. cities continues to raise alarm among citizens and law enforcement alike. President Trump has repeatedly emphasized the need for stronger public safety measures and tougher penalties for repeat offenders as part of his ongoing law-and-order agenda.
