MTG: Trump Is Wrong About Lower Prices ‘I go to the grocery store myself,’ says the GOP congresswoman

President Trump is aiming to reclaim affordability as a central Republican issue, but he’s encountering resistance from within his own party. In a recent CNN interview, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene broke ranks with the president, questioning his claim that prices are falling under his administration.

“No. I go to the grocery store myself. Grocery prices remain high. Energy prices are high. My electricity bills are higher here in Washington, D.C., at my apartment, and they’re also higher at my house in Rome, Georgia—higher than they were a year ago. So, affordability is a problem,” Greene said, according to The Hill.

Following GOP election losses on Tuesday, Trump argued that Republicans failed on messaging rather than policy. “We are the ones that have done a great job on affordability, not the Democrats,” he told reporters, according to the Associated Press. “We just lost an election, they said, based on affordability. It’s a con job by the Democrats.” On social media, Trump also claimed the affordability issue is “dead” for Democrats, citing a report that a typical Thanksgiving meal at Walmart was cheaper this year.

However, critics have noted problems with the Walmart comparison, and Greene remains unconvinced. She suggested that presidents often operate within a “cone of information” shaped by their staff, as reported by Newsweek, and implied that could be influencing Trump’s perspective.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that grocery prices are up nearly 3% compared with a year ago, underscoring ongoing affordability concerns for many Americans.
