Jefferson Parish bookkeeper accused of embezzling from church
A former parish security officer and bookkeeper in DeSoto has been indicted on federal charges of embezzlement.
Corie M. Boyer, 49, of Jefferson County, was indicted in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on four counts of wire fraud and two counts of money laundering. She has pleaded not guilty.
Boyer, who handled the parish’s financial records, helped organize fundraisers, and assisted in collecting and counting weekly offerings, is accused of stealing at least $400,000 from the church between January 2017 and March 2024.
According to court documents, Boyer allegedly used the stolen funds to pay personal credit card bills and made purchases on parish credit cards for personal expenses, including airfare, cruises, and college tuition. She also reportedly wrote checks to herself and took cash from the weekly offertory.
