An Illinois woman is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with her daughter’s 14-year-old middle school dance date and later giving birth to his child.
Authorities say 43-year-old Robyn Polston was charged with criminal sexual assault and two counts of possessing child pornography following a months-long investigation by the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an affidavit obtained by People, police launched the investigation after Polston gave birth in January. Investigators reviewed the infant’s birth certificate and discovered that the child shared both the middle and last name of the alleged 14-year-old victim.
When questioned, Polston reportedly claimed the baby’s father was “a man in his 20s named Brian,” whom she said she had not seen since the birth. However, a DNA test later confirmed the teenager was the biological father, the affidavit states.
Court documents allege the incident began in May 2023, when Polston’s daughter brought the teen as her date to a junior high dance that Polston helped chaperone. The boy later moved away but returned to the area in April 2024 — about 40 weeks before the child was born — and again that summer, before moving back permanently in August.
Investigators say they recovered explicit photos and videos involving Polston and the teen, and that the two allegedly used burner phones under false names to communicate, according to 25 News Now.
Polston was arrested Monday and is being held without bail. Her arraignment is scheduled for December 4.
The charge of criminal sexual assault in Illinois carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison, while penalties for child pornography depend on the nature and number of the offenses.
The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented on the ongoing case.
