As Americans prepare for Thanksgiving, major retailers are stepping up with affordable holiday meal options. Amazon has announced a $25 Thanksgiving meal for five people, which includes an 8-pound frozen Butterball turkey, multiple premade side dishes, and a choice of pecan, pumpkin, or sweet potato pie, People reports. The offer will be available to order from next Wednesday through Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 27.
Other retailers are also competing for budget-conscious shoppers. Last month, Walmart unveiled its 2025 Thanksgiving meal basket priced at under $4 per person—the lowest since the program began in 2022. The bundle, designed to feed 10 people, contains more than 20 items, including turkey, potatoes, stuffing mix, boxed mac and cheese, fried onions, and pie crusts, Reuters reports. Bloomberg notes the discounted basket will be available through Christmas Day.
The timing of these price drops reflects ongoing economic pressures, as inflation and uncertainties related to US trade policy continue to affect consumers, especially lower-income households. The holiday season—from Thanksgiving through Christmas, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday—is a key period for retailers, who aim to attract shoppers with competitive deals.
Walmart’s price cut follows a similar promotion by Aldi’s US division, signaling increasing competition among retailers for budget-conscious customers. Axios highlights that Walmart is offering the discounted bundle despite “the smallest turkey flock in decades” due to avian flu. Walmart’s US CEO notes that customers remain resilient and continue to spend at a healthy rate, even amid economic challenges.
Other chains, like Lidl, are also offering deals, such as a meal that feeds 10 for $36, rounding out a growing array of affordable holiday options.
