Since mid-September, ICE officers have arrested 223 illegal aliens along key highway routes as part of Operation Midway Blitz — a targeted campaign to remove unlicensed, undocumented drivers from public roads and restore safety to interstate travel.
For years, sanctuary states such as Illinois, California, and New York have enabled individuals with no legal status to obtain commercial driver’s licenses and operate heavy trucks on public highways. The consequences of those policies have been devastating, leading to fatal accidents and putting law-abiding families in danger. Of the 223 people arrested, 46 were illegal alien truck drivers, many of whom held commercial licenses obtained through lax state oversight. Ten held special license types that federal authorities have identified as highly susceptible to abuse. Several of those arrested also had criminal records involving offenses such as drug trafficking, theft, domestic battery, and child abuse.
At least a dozen of the individuals taken into custody were repeat offenders — clear evidence that these are not simply “workers seeking a better life,” but individuals whose actions threaten public safety and violate federal law.
