Harrison Ford is speaking out strongly against President Trump’s climate policies. The Star Wars and Indiana Jones star, who recently had to evacuate his Los Angeles-area home due to wildfires, told The Guardian that Trump’s approach to the environment “scares the s— out of me” and called him “among the worst criminals in history.” At 83, Ford didn’t hold back, accusing Trump of making decisions on “whims” rather than real policy and putting personal profit ahead of the planet.
Ford said Trump knows the consequences of his actions but chooses to serve the “status quo” while the world suffers. His remarks come as Trump, now in his second term, continues to roll back environmental protections, push for more fossil fuel drilling, sideline climate science, and even ban government use of terms like “climate change” and “emissions.” Trump has also targeted international climate efforts, including pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement and pressuring allies to buy more American oil and gas.
The longtime environmental advocate joked about Trump’s opposition to renewable energy, suggesting the president’s real issue with wind turbines is that he hasn’t seen a gold one. Despite the worsening climate crisis—highlighted by deadly heat waves and storms like Hurricane Melissa—Ford remains hopeful. “He’s losing ground because everything he says is a lie,” Ford said of Trump, adding that human ingenuity and “political will” can still turn things around.
Ford made the remarks ahead of receiving a conservation leadership award, emphasizing the importance of protecting nature and the vital role Indigenous peoples play in safeguarding forests. “We are teetering on the edge,” he warned, but stressed that with enough effort, meaningful change is possible. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this isn’t Ford’s first critique of Trump: just days before the 2024 election, he endorsed Kamala Harris and said Trump “spent four years turning us against each other while embracing dictators and tyrants around the world.”
