Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced a citywide curfew for anyone under the age of 18 beginning Saturday night, following several weeks of escalating violence and unrest in the nation’s capital.
The emergency order, which will remain in effect through November 5, empowers police to establish “special zones” — designated high-risk areas where curfews may begin as early as 6 p.m.

According to the mayor’s office, D.C. police have also been given authority to set up temporary curfew zones in locations where more than eight minors gather, citing potential threats to public safety.
The move comes after a violent incident at the Navy Yard involving a group of teens. Police reported that one 18-year-old and four minors were arrested on charges including public marijuana use, disorderly conduct, and failure to obey lawful orders.
Officials said one police officer sustained injuries during the altercation and was treated at the scene.
Mayor Bowser said the curfew is intended to restore order and protect the public amid growing concerns over youth-involved violence across the city.
