NORFOLK, Va. — Nakia Thompson, the grandniece of New York Attorney General Letitia James and a central figure in James’ ongoing federal mortgage fraud case, was charged Thursday after allegedly threatening to assault an assistant principal at her child’s elementary school.
According to court documents, Thompson, 36, faces a misdemeanor count of using profane, threatening, or indecent language over public airways. The charge stems from a heated confrontation on October 9 with Lindenwood Elementary School Assistant Principal Marie Hall in Norfolk, Virginia.
The criminal complaint, filed Thursday, details that Thompson allegedly unleashed a stream of threats and insults during a phone call with Hall and the school principal. Hall stated that the confrontation began around 1:15 p.m. when school officials called Thompson regarding an issue involving one of her children.
During the call, Thompson reportedly shouted, “Bitch, I’m going to punch you in the f—ing face,” before arriving at the school about 20 minutes later to continue her outburst in person.
Hall wrote that Thompson’s aggressive behavior forced staff to end the meeting early, but the tirade continued as Thompson left the building. “As Ms. Thompson is leaving down the hallway talking with another person on speaker, she said something to the effect of, ‘I’ma punch this bitch in the face,’” Hall alleged, adding that Thompson directed further threats at her, calling her a “bald-headed bitch.”
Witnesses said Thompson continued cursing loudly in front of students and parents despite being ordered to leave school property. Police were then called to the scene.
Under Virginia law, the misdemeanor charge applies to anyone who “uses obscene, vulgar, profane language or threatens any illegal or immoral act with intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass another person” over phone or radio communication.
Thompson declined to comment when contacted by reporters. Attempts to reach Hall were unsuccessful.

Court filings indicate that Thompson lives in a Norfolk property purchased in 2020 by Letitia James, which is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice. Federal prosecutors allege that James falsified information on mortgage documents to obtain favorable loan terms, though she has denied any wrongdoing.
James pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution. Prosecutors contend she was supposed to be the “sole occupant” of the home under the terms of a $109,600 mortgage but has reportedly never been seen at the residence by nearby neighbors. Investigators say the “second home rider” on her mortgage saved her approximately $19,000.

State filings also show that James had been collecting rent from the Norfolk property until earlier this year, when she began listing it as an asset without rental income.
James and President Trump have long been political adversaries. During Trump’s first term, James launched multiple legal actions against him and his company, alleging inflated property valuations. Although the initial judgment reached more than $500 million with interest, it was later overturned on appeal, though the court upheld findings that some valuations had been exaggerated.

James has maintained that the federal case against her is politically motivated.
Meanwhile, Thompson is also listed as an “absconder” in North Carolina, where she is wanted for violating probation on prior misdemeanor convictions for assault, battery, and trespassing, according to state correctional records.
She is scheduled to appear in court on November 3 for the new Norfolk charge.
