President Trump on Sunday brushed off the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations, describing them as “a joke” and rejecting claims that his leadership carries any royal overtones, according to The Hill.

“I’m not a king,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to Washington from Florida. “I work my a– off to make our country great. That’s all it is. I’m not a king at all.”

The “No Kings” protests — a network of progressive groups opposed to Trump’s policies — organized events in all 50 states on Saturday, with about 2,600 rallies held in cities including Washington, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, according to NPR.

Trump downplayed the demonstrations, questioning both their turnout and their authenticity. “I looked at the people — they’re not representative of this country. And I looked at all the brand new signs… I guess it was paid for by [George] Soros and other radical left lunatics,” he said. “It looks like it was. We’re checking it out.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson called the protests “evidence of a rise of Marxism in the Democratic Party,” according to Politico. The outlet also noted that Saturday’s demonstrations marked the third major mobilization against Trump’s policies during his second term.

Trump later appeared to poke fun at the protesters online, sharing a spoof video showing a jet labeled “King Trump” flying over the crowds.
