Cincinnati Police Chief Who Was Sued For Anti-White Discrimination Placed on Leave

Cincinnati Police Chief Terri Theetge has been placed on paid administrative leave following a lawsuit accusing her of anti-white discrimination.

City Manager Sheryl Long announced the decision and appointed Assistant Chief Adam Hennie as Interim Police Chief, citing the need for continuity and leadership within the department.

“The City continues to face serious public safety challenges that underscore the need for stability at the command level,” Long said, according to WLWT. “Therefore, I’ve named Assistant Chief Adam Hennie as Interim Police Chief. Our focus remains on maintaining stability within the department and ensuring the highest standards of service to our residents. I have full confidence in Interim Chief Hennie and the department’s command staff to continue their dedicated work at this time.”

Earlier this year, Chief Theetge faced backlash for her response to a violent incident during a Cincinnati jazz festival, where a white couple was attacked by a mob described as mostly black males. During a press conference on the case, Theetge confirmed that five individuals had been charged in connection with the assault but criticized social media coverage of the event.

“The post that we’ve seen does not depict the entire incident. That is one version of what occurred,” Theetge said. “I think the irresponsibility with social media is that it often shows one side of the equation without factual context, and then people run with that. It grows legs and becomes something bigger that we then have to try to manage as part of the investigation.”

She also accused both social media and mainstream outlets of distorting events:

“Social media and mainstream media and their commentaries are misrepresentations of the circumstances surrounding any given event,” she added.

The recent lawsuit against Theetge and the City of Cincinnati claims the department has engaged in systemic discrimination against white male officers. According to WXIX, the suit alleges that city leadership has “actively and systemically undertaken efforts to promote, advance, and make promotion and assignment decisions that are preferable to women and minorities, and to the exclusion of white men.”

The plaintiffs—all white male officers—say they were qualified for various promotions and assignments but were passed over in favor of others based on race or sex.

“Each of the plaintiffs were qualified for those positions,” the complaint states. “Similarly situated persons received those preferential assignments on the basis of race and/or sex. Plaintiffs were treated differently than similarly situated employees of a different race and/or sex.”

Chief Theetge remains on paid leave while the city reviews the matter.
