Ireland Baldwin is reflecting on her childhood and her path to building her own family as she approaches her 30th birthday.

In a candid Substack post titled “30, Flirty, and Surviving,” published Monday, the model revealed the challenges of growing up with her famous parents, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. She wrote that she “grew up without two parents in my home and no siblings to turn to,” describing a childhood shaped by distance and complicated family dynamics.

Alec, 67, and Basinger, 71, married in 1993 and divorced in 2002. In her post, Ireland reflected on the lasting impact of her upbringing: “I move into 30 with a lot less weight on my shoulders… the need to continue to carry my narcissistic, unreliable, addict family members who I thought I needed in my life.”

She added, “I had a lonely childhood at times, which is why I grew up feeling like I needed to win over certain people in my own family. Nothing was more freeing than finally realizing how poisonous these people are.” Ireland said her experiences have shaped her determination to break unhealthy family cycles for her own daughter.

Ireland welcomed her daughter, Holland, 2, in 2023 with musician RAC, whose real name is André Allen Anjos. Writing about her journey, she described enduring “10 years of pain… 10 years of not knowing what the hell I am doing or talking about, but still running my mouth anyway.” Among her lessons: “Don’t be ashamed of who you really are… You can’t change or fix anyone. Period.”

She also addressed her relationship with her mother, encouraging open communication: “Tell your mom you love her every single day. Text her when you get to where you’re going. You will soon understand her in ways you never had.”

Ireland concluded her post with a message of self-focus and hope for the future: “I can’t speak for the vastly, ever-changing world around me. I can only selfishly focus on my own road. I hope to find my people. My village.”

Despite the complexities with her biological parents, Ireland highlighted the positive relationships in her life. She has a close bond with stepmother Hilaria Baldwin, 41, and credited her for helping her build a loving connection with her father and siblings. “She is the reason I get to have siblings/a big family that I’ve always wanted,” Ireland said, praising Hilaria’s role in her father’s life and the family’s wellbeing.

Alec Baldwin has publicly acknowledged the challenges of his divorce, describing in his reality show, The Baldwins, how the legal battle with Basinger affected his relationship with Ireland. He said they now enjoy a “good relationship.” Alec married Hilaria in 2012, and the couple shares seven children: Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 6, Eduardo, 5, María, 5, and Ilaria, 3.

Ireland has previously spoken warmly about her stepmother during her time on Dancing With the Stars, praising Hilaria’s kindness, support, and influence on the family dynamic. Hilaria responded to Ireland’s comments online with a heartfelt message: “I’m crying. I love you with all my heart… These words mean so much. You mean so much to me.”
