Deer Rescued After Getting Stuck Between Concrete Barriers on I-75 in Auburn Hills

A deer became trapped between concrete barriers Monday on Interstate 75 in Auburn Hills, Michigan, prompting a rescue operation by local authorities.

“I’m proud of our team whose skill and determination made it possible to rescue this deer from certain death,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

The four-point buck sustained minor bruises during the rescue. Oakland County Animal Control later transported the animal to Bald Mountain Recreation Area, where it was safely released back into the wild.

According to reports, a passing motorist called Auburn Hills police shortly before 2 p.m. to report that a deer had been struck by a vehicle on I-75 near Lapeer Road and had become wedged in the roughly one-foot gap between the northbound and southbound concrete barriers.

Auburn Hills police requested assistance from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, which arrived with specialized equipment. Deputies carefully used straps and a rescue truck to lift the deer and free its hooves.

The rescue took nearly an hour, during which lanes in both directions of I-75 were temporarily closed.

This incident follows a recent deer rescue in Southeast Michigan. Michigan State Police freed a trapped deer Friday in Jackson County.
