A chaotic brawl inside a Miami-area Publix supermarket Thursday night erupted into violence when a shirtless man armed himself with a metal shelf and struck multiple people, police said.

Authorities say the fight began around 6 p.m. near the entrance of the Publix located at Southwest 163rd Street and Southwest 95th Avenue. According to police records cited by WPLG, two large groups of people got into an aggressive verbal argument that quickly turned physical.

Video shared on social media by OnlyinDade shows two women clawing at each other as they crash into a greeting card display, toppling a shelf in the process. The shirtless man, identified by police as 20-year-old Climont Mann, is then seen grabbing the dislodged metal shelf and striking the women as they fight on the ground.

Climont Mann was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

At least one of the blows appeared to hit one of the women in the head, according to the footage. Mann allegedly struck the pair two more times before dropping the shelf and jumping into the broader melee that had broken out nearby.

Witnesses said dozens of items—including bread, sandals, paper, and a wig—were scattered across the floor as the crowd fought. Publix employees positioned themselves near the registers and employee areas while waiting for police to arrive.

“Ooh, man, you going to jail,” one bystander can be heard saying in the background of the video as shocked shoppers looked on.

The fight spilled into the parking lot before officers broke it up. Everyone involved in the brawl has since been banned from the store. Two people were hospitalized, and several others received treatment from fire crews at the scene, according to NBC 6 South Florida.

“I thought it was horrible. It was a disgrace,” one shopper told reporters. “Security did not step in when they should’ve. It was just an outrage and a disgrace.”

Mann was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct, though the criminal mischief charge was dropped during his bond hearing Friday.

A judge ordered Mann to stay away from the victims both in person and online. He remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,150 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on December 8.

Police have not disclosed what sparked the confrontation.
