Three activists stripped down to their underwear during a Maine school board meeting this week in protest of the district’s policy allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports.

The protest, led by local activist Nick Blanchard—who goes by “Corn Pop”—took place Wednesday in Augusta, according to Central Maine. Two women and one man slowly removed their clothes at the end of the Augusta School Department meeting while Blanchard delivered a monologue.

“I’m about to show you guys how uncomfortable it is for girls,” Blanchard said as the women disrobed. “You feel uncomfortable? Because that’s what these young girls feel like when a boy walks into their locker room and starts changing in front of them. That’s what these young girls feel every time a young boy changes in front of them.”

Reactions from school board members varied. Some appeared outraged, others averted their gaze, and some seemed unbothered.

Blanchard told the board, “This is Maine’s capital. We should be setting an example for the rest of the state. You know what example you guys are setting? That we do not care about the young girls in the rest of the state.”

After the protest went viral locally, Blanchard said more than 150 people have contacted him in support of his stance on Title IX policies. “Do I think these tactics work in a way of changing policy? Probably not,” he told Central Maine. “But the only way to get them to listen to us is to do something crazy and get in the national spotlight.”

The Augusta school board voted to maintain its current policy, which aligns with the Maine Human Rights Act. That law allows student athletes to participate on teams that correspond with their gender identity, WGME reported.

President Trump signed an executive order in February aimed at preventing biological men from competing in women’s sports under Title IX.

The Maine demonstration comes shortly after a similar protest in California. Beth Bourne, a local mother and chair of Moms for Liberty, also stripped down to her underwear during a Davis Joint Unified School Board meeting on September 18 to protest transgender students using girls’ locker rooms.

Several school districts in Maine and California have passed resolutions to support compliance with President Trump’s executive order, Fox News reported.
