Las Vegas’ oldest—and possibly “most haunted”—hotel is inviting thrill-seekers to put their bravery to the test this spooky season.

The El Cortez Hotel & Casino is hosting a unique contest giving one lucky participant the chance to spend a weekend hunting ghosts, with the opportunity to win a $5,000 prize. The winner will be selected by Casino.org.

Located on Fremont Street, known as “the Old Strip” or “Old Vegas,” the El Cortez has been a fixture of the city since 1941. Over its 84-year history, the hotel has seen it all: mobsters, murders, and reportedly, paranormal activity. Guests have long reported eerie experiences, including phantom footsteps and shadowy figures.

“We’re sending you to investigate, fully equipped with ghost-hunting gear, to see if the stories are true!” the contest listing from Casino.org reads. “The chosen ghost hunter will check in to the El Cortez for a haunted weekend stay, exploring the casino’s oldest and eeriest corners in search of signs of ghostly activity.”

The winner will traverse the hotel’s corridors, casino floor, and other allegedly haunted areas at night using tools like EMF meters, EVP recorders, and thermal sensors. They will document any unusual activity with photos, videos, and a short report of the scariest, funniest, or most mysterious findings.

Some rumors add an extra chill to the experience: the hotel’s basement reportedly holds the ashes of former employees who died without family, adding a macabre twist to the hunt.

It’s important to note that the El Cortez is not directly involved with the contest. A spokesperson told The Post, “El Cortez Hotel & Casino is aware of a recent online contest promotion related to a ‘Vegas Ghost Hunt’ and is not affiliated in any way with this contest or its organizers. Any official partnerships, promotions, or events will always be communicated through our verified channels, including our website and social media accounts.”

The contest runs from October 6 through October 31, with the haunted weekend expected to take place in early December. And a $5,000 prize certainly doesn’t hurt, especially as Las Vegas visitors continue to grapple with soaring prices.

“Having a coffee that was $14 was crazy. I just wasn’t expecting that. It was just a latte with a few extra flavors,” said Katherine from College Station, Texas. Her daughter Cammie added, “I got a drink this morning. It was, like, $12 for a lemonade or something like that. And water bottles are so expensive.”
