Part II – Unmasking the Cover-Up Behind America’s Largest Political Scandal

POSTED FOR: Rotorblade

Independent journalist John Spiropoulos, a friend of The Conservative Treehouse, has released a detailed video series outlining how President Obama, FBI Director James Comey, and CIA Director John Brennan allegedly coordinated a cover-up to conceal a wide-ranging political surveillance effort targeting domestic opponents.

Spiropoulos’s investigation focuses on the intelligence community’s efforts between 2012 and 2017, particularly the transition period following the 2016 election. According to his research, the Obama administration relied on the Trump-Russia collusion narrative—promoted by Hillary Clinton’s campaign—to mask its own intelligence abuses and deflect scrutiny from unauthorized surveillance activities.

From Surveillance to Cover-Up

Initially, the surveillance operations posed little risk to those involved. With President Obama in office and Hillary Clinton expected to succeed him, the officials running the operation could safely assume their activities would remain hidden.

However, when Donald Trump won the 2016 election, everything changed. The unexpected outcome placed key officials—Obama, Comey, Brennan, and others—under potential exposure. To mitigate that risk, the administration and its intelligence allies amplified the “Russiagate” narrative, portraying Trump as compromised by foreign influence. This, Spiropoulos argues, was designed to obscure what he calls “Spygate”—the Obama-era domestic spying operation.

The Paper Trail

2010–2012: The IRS was allegedly weaponized to identify and target political opponents, a scheme exposed in 2012. President Obama reportedly responded by placing his chief of staff, Jack Lew, in charge of the IRS to contain the fallout.

2012–2016: The FBI continued political surveillance through unauthorized searches of the NSA database, monitoring opposition figures during the election cycle.

April 2016: NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers discovered the irregular database queries conducted by the FBI, particularly targeting Republican primary candidates.

July 2016: In response, the FBI launched Operation Crossfire Hurricane, an investigation aimed at neutralizing political risk by reframing the surveillance as national security work.

October 2016: The FBI rushed a FISA application through the secret surveillance court, relying heavily on the now-discredited Christopher Steele dossier. Around this time, Admiral Rogers formally notified the FISA Court of the FBI’s misuse of the NSA system.

From “Russiagate” to “Covergate”

After President Trump’s election victory, officials scrambled to legitimize their actions retroactively. In December 2016, the Obama administration codified the Trump-Russia allegations into policy, blaming Moscow for election interference and producing the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) as validation for the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane operation.

The pattern continued:

May 2017: Special Counsel Robert Mueller assumed control of Crossfire Hurricane, effectively absorbing all FBI evidence and shielding earlier misconduct.

April 2019: As Mueller’s investigation concluded, the coverup efforts transitioned into the impeachment process.

2020–2021: New operations allegedly emerged—mail-in voting in 2020 and FBI’s Operation Arctic Frost in January 2021—targeting Trump supporters and independent election investigators. Data from Arctic Frost was later shared with the January 6 Committee and the Department of Homeland Security, reportedly informing TSA’s “Quiet Skies” passenger monitoring program.

A Continuous Chain of Protection

According to Spiropoulos’s findings, these efforts represent a single, continuous thread of institutional protection—a coordinated attempt by officials within the FBI, DOJ, and intelligence community to conceal the original political spying operation carried out from 2012 through 2016 under the Obama administration.

The two-part video series by John Spiropoulos breaks down these connections, offering a visual roadmap of how the surveillance, coverup, and narrative control evolved over the past decade.
