A remarkable love story has emerged from Brazil, where a once-devout nun and a Catholic priest found unexpected romance after years of service to the Church.

Lais Dognini, who once lived as a Carmelite nun, met priest Jackson Dognini more than six years ago when he reached out to pray for her during a difficult battle with depression, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo.

Though both had served in the same missionary circles, the two never spoke until Jackson sent Lais a message offering spiritual support. What began as a prayerful exchange soon grew into a deep friendship rooted in faith and mutual respect.

At the time, Jackson was completing his priestly training after five years in the seminary, while Lais had recently left the convent to focus on recovery and rediscover her purpose.

After much reflection, Jackson decided to step away from the priesthood to pursue a different path — one that would eventually lead him to Lais. The pair began dating in April 2024, became engaged in October, and quietly married in March of this year.

The couple revealed their marriage publicly this week through an Instagram Story, delighting Lais’s more than 16,000 followers. “It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it — we’re adults now, and we know what we want in life,” she wrote.

Supporters have flooded their social media with congratulations, with one admirer writing, “It wasn’t an escape from their calling — it was a reunion with it.” Another added, “God writes correctly through lines we didn’t even know existed.”
