ORLANDO, Fla. — A Florida cosmetologist and his sister are accused of operating a fraudulent dental practice in Orlando for several years, authorities say, allegedly performing procedures such as shaving down patients’ teeth and placing veneers in exchange for thousands of dollars.

According to local Fox affiliate WOFL, one woman reported developing a severe gum infection after receiving veneers that were too large. Investigators said she “wanted to cry because of how they looked.”

The scope of the alleged operation remains unclear, but police say the Rendons collected thousands of dollars in cash for unlicensed dental services over several years.

Carlos Rendon is a licensed cosmetologist, which allows him to perform hair and nail services—but not medical or dental procedures—according to the Florida Department of Health.

Dr. Deoraj Ravi Lall, a local dentist, warned of potential complications from such unlicensed procedures. “She can have many things go wrong that a typical person would not even think about treating,” he told WOFL. “An infection in your gums can lead to problems with the heart, kidneys, or even diabetes. You can get many serious complications.”

The Rendons are facing felony charges, though details have not yet been publicly released. Law enforcement and Florida Department of Health officials did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.
