Vance says US ‘headed to a shutdown’ after meeting with Democrats
WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders left a White House meeting on Sunday with little sign of progress toward avoiding a looming government shutdown that could halt a wide range of federal services as early as Wednesday.
Both sides accused the other of being responsible if Congress fails to approve funding past Tuesday’s midnight deadline (0400 GMT Wednesday).
“I think we’re headed to a shutdown,” Vice President JD Vance said following the meeting.
