A disturbing Halloween setup in Houston has ignited backlash after showing effigies resembling federal immigration officers wearing red MAGA-style hats hanging from gallows — a display critics say could encourage violence amid already heightened tensions.
The front-yard scene, located in Harris County’s majority-Hispanic Second Ward neighborhood, featured multiple mannequins in black shirts, tan pants, and face masks — outfits drawing comparisons to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Each was strung up with nooses on homemade gallows marked with a small Mexican flag, according to footage reviewed by Fox News.
Two coffins were placed on either side of the gallows, while a hangman figure dressed in a poncho and straw hat stood over another mannequin bound at the hands. Barbed-wire fencing surrounded the grim exhibit.

The display spread quickly online, with tens of thousands of social media users condemning it. One viral post read: “This hateful display will likely be inciting violence. It goes past free speech. Arrest who did this.”
The controversy comes just days after 32-year-old gunman Joshua Jahn attacked an ICE facility in Dallas, opening fire on a van and killing one detainee while injuring two others before turning the weapon on himself. Authorities say Jahn, who used a Nazi-era battle rifle, had written “ANTI ICE” on his ammunition.
Tensions have been fueled further by comments from high-profile Democrats. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the night before the Dallas shooting, accused ICE of acting like “an authoritarian government” that conducts arrests with “no oversight” and “zero accountability.”

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar also stoked controversy after calling ICE agents “vile” and “cruel” in a now-deleted social media post where she urged the agency’s abolition.
Houston Councilman Mario Castillo, whose district includes the home displaying the effigies, did not respond to media requests for comment. Democratic Mayor John Whitmire also remained silent.
The chilling scene has become a flashpoint in the broader national debate, as conservatives warn that escalating rhetoric from the left is fueling targeted violence against immigration officers under President Trump’s administration.
