Texas Man Charged with Making Terroristic Threat Against Charlie Kirk Prayer Vigil

A San Antonio man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to attack a prayer vigil at the University of Texas–San Antonio (UTSA) held in memory of Charlie Kirk.

According to authorities, 19-year-old Xaelyn Dunbar posted on Facebook that he planned to use a Ford F-250 diesel truck to run over people attending the event. An arrest affidavit says Dunbar wrote: “This is a disgrace and I can tell you right now ima make sure this won’t be a good nor comforting vigil yall watch and see.” He later added: “You’ll see tmr I jus wouldn’t advise tryna stop a ford 250 Diesel truck. Show yall how much Charlie really means.”

The posts prompted police to conduct a welfare check at Dunbar’s home, where he was taken into custody. Investigators say he admitted to making the comments but claimed he was “being dumb” and “clowning around.” When asked by officers whether the remarks were worth the consequences, Dunbar reportedly replied, “If that’s what it takes, I did what I did and I can take the consequences,” according to KSAT.

Dunbar has been charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony that carries potential penalties ranging from six months in jail to up to 10 years in prison. His bond was set at $40,000, and he is being held at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.

Roughly 2,000 people attended the UTSA vigil honoring Kirk, whose assassination has fueled broader political tensions. The arrest comes as conservative leaders voice growing alarm over threats to free speech and assembly, with some urging President Donald Trump to declare a state of emergency in response to escalating political violence.
