Sacramento, California — Gunshots were fired at a local television news station in Sacramento on Friday afternoon, prompting a police investigation.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, a vehicle pulled up outside the building housing ABC10 (KXTV), a local ABC affiliate owned by Tegna, and a suspect fired at least three rounds into the station’s lobby window around 1:30 p.m. One person was inside the lobby at the time, but no injuries were reported.

Police confirmed the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.

The incident comes amid controversy surrounding late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. Earlier this week, several ABC affiliates, including those operated by Nexstar, pulled Kimmel’s show following backlash over a segment involving political commentator Charlie Kirk. Kimmel had falsely claimed Kirk was assassinated by a MAGA conservative, a statement that has since been widely criticized and corrected.

Disney also suspended Kimmel’s program. President Barack Obama commented on the matter Thursday, criticizing the Trump Administration in the wake of Kimmel’s suspension. The following day, the Sacramento affiliate was targeted.

While speculation around the motive continues, police have not confirmed any connection between the shooting and the recent controversy involving ABC or Jimmy Kimmel.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
