Can his lover be charged with a crime?

Tyler Robinson, 22, allegedly confessed via text message to his partner, Lance Twiggs, that he murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk — but Twiggs never informed authorities, Utah prosecutors revealed Tuesday.
The disturbing messages, released by prosecutors, show Robinson telling Twiggs shortly after the Sept. 10 shooting that he had killed Kirk, where he hid the weapon, and instructing Twiggs to stay silent and delete the exchange.
Despite receiving the confession just hours after the murder, Twiggs — who is transgender and currently transitioning — did not report it. Robinson was not located by law enforcement until at least a day after the messages were sent.
Twiggs has not been charged and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. Legal experts say that simply failing to report a crime is not illegal in most cases.
“There is generally no duty to report a crime,” said Neama Rahmani, a former prosecutor. “You need to do something affirmative to be held criminally liable — like helping the suspect, destroying evidence, or lying to police.”

Rahmani noted that Twiggs could potentially face charges if evidence emerged that they attempted to hide the crime, obstruct justice, or mislead investigators — but emphasized that, at this time, there is no indication Twiggs broke the law.
According to court documents, Robinson sent Twiggs a message instructing him to look under his keyboard. There, Twiggs found a note reading: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
In subsequent texts, Robinson admitted to the shooting, claimed he was driven by anger at Kirk’s views, and explained that he had stashed the rifle in nearby bushes. He also expressed concern about his father discovering he had used a family heirloom firearm with an expensive scope.
“You are all I worry about, love,” Robinson wrote, to which Twiggs replied, “I’m much more worried about you.”
Robinson then urged Twiggs to delete their conversation and avoid speaking to police or the media: “If any police ask you questions, ask for a lawyer and stay silent.”
The victim, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk, was shot and killed on the Utah Valley University campus during the opening event of his “American Comeback Tour.” He is survived by his wife and two young children. A memorial is scheduled for Sept. 21, and former President Donald Trump has announced plans to attend.
Robinson is charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, tampering with a witness, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.
