A New Jersey man has been indicted on multiple counts of animal cruelty after authorities say he lured stray and abandoned cats to his home and subjected them to abuse and fatal harm.

Edwin Sanabia, 26, of Atlantic City, came under investigation following reports that he had trespassed onto a neighbor’s property and struck several stray cats with a stick. According to the indictment obtained by The Post, the animals had been seeking shelter in a makeshift structure nearby.

Prosecutors allege that Sanabia used cans of tuna to attract stray cats from the neighborhood to his residence, where he then beat, tortured, and ultimately killed them. Police say the remains of the cats were later discovered in a nearby dumpster.

In separate incidents observed by a neighbor, Sanabia reportedly punched and hit cats before dragging them away by their tails, authorities said.

“We encourage our residents to report animal abuse and neglect to their local police departments,” the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a public statement.

Sanabia faces 13 counts of animal cruelty, indicating that prosecutors believe there is evidence relating to at least 13 separate incidents.

He was initially charged in July, and the case was later presented to a grand jury, which returned an indictment on Tuesday. Attempts to reach Sanabia for comment were unsuccessful, and it remains unclear whether he has retained legal representation.
