Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and close ally of former President Donald Trump, was fatally shot on Wednesday during a public event at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old.
Kirk, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was on stage conducting a Q&A session as part of his “American Comeback Tour” when he was struck in the neck by a bullet fired from an estimated 200 yards away. Witnesses say the single shot caused immediate chaos as the crowd of thousands scrambled for safety.
He was transported to a nearby hospital and underwent emergency surgery but later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have confirmed the shooter remains at large, despite earlier reports suggesting a suspect had been apprehended.
The assassination has sent shockwaves through conservative political circles, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes.
In a statement on Truth Social, former President Trump wrote:
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children — a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.
Frantzve, 36, is a former Miss Arizona (2012), a ministry leader, and a social entrepreneur. A graduate of Regis University, where she played NCAA women’s basketball, she later earned a Doctorate in Biblical Studies from Liberty University. She also hosts a Christian podcast, Midweek Rise Up, and runs PROCLAIM, a faith-based apparel line made in the U.S.
On her website, she describes herself as a “driven social entrepreneur” and a woman of faith shaped by her global experiences — from New York to China — in the entertainment and modeling industries. Her public posts frequently highlight her husband’s impact and leadership.
In one recent Instagram video shared with her more than 510,000 followers, Frantzve praised her husband:
“My husband Charlie Kirk is a force. He is bold when the world demands silence, he is fearless where others flinch, and he has taken on the battle of the next generation, changing these hearts and minds.”
In another post, she shared a touching video of Kirk buying sandals for their daughter, writing simply: “Thank you for being the best.”
The couple married in 2021 and were often public about their shared Christian values and family life.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the shooting. No suspect has been identified publicly, and the motive remains unclear.
