Man shoots cousin over a box of rice: Police
ST. LOUIS – An 18-year-old St. Louis man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly shooting his cousin during a dispute over a box of rice.
According to a probable cause statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred on August 15 in the 5900 block of Etzel Avenue, in the city’s West End neighborhood.
Police say Keith Butler became enraged over the argument and chased his cousin with a firearm. The victim tried to hide inside a vehicle, but Butler located him and shot him, striking him in the hand.
Investigators also revealed that Butler had sent threatening messages to the victim’s sister the day before the shooting, stating he planned to harm his cousin. Authorities say he continued to issue threats following the incident.
