“Chicago About to Find Out Why it’s Called the Department of WAR” – Trump Taunts Chicago

Former President Donald Trump stirred controversy this week after reposting a meme on his Truth Social platform that appeared to mock Illinois officials and hinted at upcoming federal enforcement actions in Chicago. The meme included the phrase, “I love the smell of deportations in the morning,” alongside another caption: “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

The image—reportedly AI-generated—shows Trump wearing a hat resembling a Confederate-style uniform, with helicopters flying over the Chicago skyline. The bottom corner of the meme reads “Chipocalypse Now,” a play on the title of the 1979 war film Apocalypse Now.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker condemned the post, calling it a “legitimate threat to go to war with an American city” and described Trump as a “scared man” and a “wannabe dictator.”

As first reported by The Gateway Pundit, Trump reaffirmed his intention to deploy federal agents and troops to Democrat-led cities experiencing high crime, including Chicago.

“We have the safest place, Washington, DC, and we’ll be going to other cities to help out,” Trump said during a recent appearance. “Preferably, we’d like to be asked, but in some cases, that just won’t happen because they’re people that don’t understand the word ask, people that don’t understand they’re in trouble, or they’re stupid.”

This rhetoric comes amid reports that as many as 200 Homeland Security officials are set to be deployed to Chicago as early as this week, with plans to remain through September. The operation reportedly focuses on immigration enforcement, particularly targeting undocumented individuals in Illinois, a self-declared sanctuary state.

Officials have also suggested the National Guard could be activated if necessary, either to control potential unrest—as has happened in cities like Los Angeles—or to support local crime deterrence efforts, similar to operations currently underway in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, Governor Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have pushed back on claims that the city is “lawless,” emphasizing ongoing local efforts to address crime and improve public safety.
