Video Appears to Show Ohio School Official Advising on How to Navigate Gender Policy Restrictions
A recently released video from watchdog group Accuracy in Media (AIM) appears to show a school official in Ohio discussing ways to navigate around state laws related to transgender student participation in school sports and facility access.
The footage, filmed undercover by AIM, features a conversation between individuals posing as parents of a transgender student and Tamette Duckworth, the Assistant Athletic Director at Princeton City Schools. In the video, Duckworth is seen discussing potential strategies to help a transgender student participate on girls’ sports teams and use female-designated facilities.
This comes in the wake of Ohio’s legislative efforts to restrict gender-affirming care for minors and limit participation of transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports. In 2023, Governor Mike DeWine vetoed House Bill 68, which aimed to enforce these restrictions. The Ohio State Senate later voted to override that veto.
Despite these developments, Duckworth is seen in the video advising that students could be enrolled using an updated birth certificate and that parents should avoid disclosing the student’s biological sex. “I would say whether it’s at Princeton or at another school I would suggest that,” she says.
When asked if the student would be accepted as long as their transgender status remained undisclosed, Duckworth responded, “Yeah.” She also made a light-hearted remark, referencing a hypothetical complaint from “somebody named Karen,” and then trailed off.
The video has sparked debate over how schools are interpreting and responding to evolving state laws on gender identity and student rights.
