Actress Mia Farrow Blames Republicans Moments After Deadly Minnesota Mass Shooting
A tragic mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has left two children dead and at least 17 others injured, including seven children who remain in critical condition. The incident has once again ignited national discussion over gun control laws in the United States.
According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, the suspected gunman took their own life at the scene. While a senior White House official confirmed the alleged shooter’s name as Robin Westman — who began identifying as a woman in 2020 — law enforcement agencies, including local police and the FBI, have not yet publicly confirmed the identity.
In the wake of the tragedy, actress Mia Farrow took to the social media platform Bluesky to express her frustration, citing political inaction and the influence of the gun lobby. “Rational gun laws desperately needed,” Farrow wrote, suggesting that many Republican lawmakers receive large contributions from gun manufacturers and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Political leaders echoed similar sentiments. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated, “We must do more to stop gun violence in America,” while Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) called for a nationwide ban on assault weapons. “It just can’t be in local states. It’s got to be nationally on these assault weapons,” Klobuchar said.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also spoke emotionally at a press conference, stating, “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying.”
President Donald Trump issued a proclamation honoring the victims, ordering flags to be flown at half-staff through August 31, 2025. “As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 27, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota… I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff,” the statement read.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
