NJ bakery owner stabbed during fight with customer over eggplant sandwich
PATERSON, N.J. (PIX11) — The owner of a popular Paterson bakery was stabbed Thursday morning by an irate customer claiming the shop gave him the wrong sandwich four years ago, officials said Friday.
The customer and the victim were arguing over the old order when the suspect allegedly attacked the owner and a worker in the Baladna Bakery on Main Street at around 8 a.m., authorities said.
The man was upset because four years ago he ordered an egg sandwich and got an eggplant sandwich instead, according to Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.
One victim was slashed in the arm the other was stabbed in the chest, police said. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A worker at a nearby store heard the screaming and ran outside to see one of the owners holding his bleeding arm. He then saw the suspect run away.
“What happened yesterday surprised everyone because they are very nice people,” the man told PIX11 News on Friday.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
