The Goldie Hawn Comfort Recipe That Daughter Kate Hudson Calls ‘A Classic in Our Family’

Kate Hudson showed some major love to her mom Goldie, referring to her as “the queen of taking whatever’s in the fridge and making something crazy delicious.” Kate then revealed the favorite dish her mom makes: beef stroganoff.

What Makes Goldie Hawn’s Beef Stroganoff So Special?

“My mom—or Gogo as the boys call her—perfected this recipe, and it’s now a classic in our family,” Hudson says. “It’s all about using the best quality sirloin and good, fresh mushrooms, and seasoning simply with just salt and pepper.”

Goldie’s original recipe doesn’t call for it, but when Hudson makes her mom’s beef stroganoff, she adds some hot paprika for “a little heat and to add a taste of Hungary to an otherwise traditional Russian dish,” she says. (For context, Goldie Hawn is the granddaughter of two Hungarian Jewish immigrants.)

Beef stroganoff is a rich, creamy, comforting dish that’s packed with so much savory flavor. Hudson loves to serve the dish “heaped on a bed of egg noodles” with some sour cream on top. “It doesn’t get more comforting,” she says. Hudson will also serve some roasted vegetables alongside and “add a loaf of good, warm bread and butter and call it dinner.” Am I the only one who wants to be invited over Kate’s house for dinner?

How to Make Goldie Hawn’s Beef Stroganoff

To make this creamy beef and mushroom stroganoff, start by sautéing onions and garlic in butter until translucent, then add seasoned steak and cook until browned. Stir in mushrooms and beef stock, letting everything simmer until the mushrooms are tender.

In a small pan, bring some more beef stock to a simmer and whisk in some almond flour. Cook for a minute or two to remove the raw flour flavor. Stir the almond flour mixture into the pan with the beef and let it bubble away for a couple of minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove the skillet from the heat, mix in sour cream and paprika and adjust the seasonings to taste. Serve over egg noodles and enjoy it with the mom in your life.
