Dear Mr. Fixit
Dear Mr. Fixit:
I’m so confused about my light switch. I have a lamp on a small table by my front door that plugs in, and there is a switch by the front door that turns the lamp on and off. It works great. So I recently got a remote control device that I can use a voice command to turn the lamp on & off, and I can dim the lamp, etc. I reached behind the table and unplugged the lamp, and I plugged the remote control receiver unit into the wall outlet with my lamp plugged into it. It was hard to reach, being behind the table but I got it all plugged in. I installed the remote control software and I was able to do everything to the lamp that the thing promised me. Works great.
So the other day, I decide to turn off the lamp with the switch like I’ve always done, and THE LAMP STAYED ON! I flicked the switch on and off, and I left it off for 5 minutes, and nothing changes. That lamp stays on. With the light switch on the wall OFF, the lamp stays on. Did this remote control module somehow override the wiring in the walls? Is something in my lamp changed? How is this possible?
