Rep. Ilhan Omar is still paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to the consulting firm run by man she allegedly had an affair with
Last year, a woman accused her husband of having an affair with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) in a divorce filing. Later, it was reported that Omar had been paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to the consulting firm run by that man, Tim Mynett.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that despite the scrutiny, cash is still flowing from Omar’s committee to Mynett’s E Street Group.
During the fourth quarter of 2019, Omar’s campaign paid the E Street Group $215,000 for consulting, direct mail, research services, travel expenses, advertisements, and graphic design.
The committee brought in $403,000 in donations during that time, spending more than half of it on services from E Street Group. During the first three quarters of 2019, Omar’s committee paid E Street Group $310,000, meaning the amount increased dramatically in Q4.
Complaints to the Federal Election Commission about the arrangement have not been resolved, according to the New York Post.
Omar has not addressed allegations by Mynett’s ex-wife, Beth, about his alleged affair with Omar. From the Free Beacon:
Dr. Beth Mynett, Mynett’s ex-wife, said in divorce papers filed last year that her husband was having an affair with Omar. “The parties physically separated on or about April 7, 2019, when defendant told plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar,” the papers said.
“By way of example, days prior to defendant’s devastating and shocking declaration of love for Rep. Omar and admission of their affair, he and Rep. Omar took the parties’ son to dinner to formally meet for the first time at the family’s favorite neighborhood restaurant while plaintiff was out of town,” the papers said. “Rep. Omar gave the parties’ son a gift and the defendant later brought her back inside the family’s home.”
According to The Daily Mail, the two were living together in a “secret apartment” in D.C. after Omar’s own divorce from her second husband was finalized.
