Liberal Pollster Nate Silver Predicts Trump Might ‘Quit’ White House After Midterm Losses
Two days after Democrats posted solid midterm gains, pollster Nate Silver floated the idea that President Donald Trump might simply quit.
On his podcast, Silver described a “weird intuition” that Trump could look for some pretext to leave office early, arguing that the president could become isolated enough to make an exit.

The remark is less a serious forecast than a window into how parts of the left are processing the results.
After years of treating Trump as both inevitable and fragile, some analysts now appear to believe the midterms have broken his will.
The assumption seems to be that once Republicans lose ground in Congress, the man who has spent a decade in continuous political combat will suddenly decide the fight is no longer worth it.
As I’ve been saying, Trump would rather take his Party down with him than fail alone.

That reading says more about the people offering it than about Trump.
Silver has spent the past several weeks arguing that a large Democratic wave would turn Trump into a “super-lame duck” and effectively close the Trump era.

Much of the commentary coming out of left-leaning outlets treats every setback as evidence that Trump’s support is collapsing and that he will soon be finished.
The midterms are being cast not merely as a normal loss of seats for the party in power, but as a psychological event that could prompt the president to walk away from the job.
Trump’s actual record points in the other direction. He has never treated electoral losses or institutional opposition as reasons to exit.
He stayed in the 2016 race when nearly every major voice said he was finished. He fought through two impeachments, multiple criminal cases, and the 2020 defeat.
Nothing in his public behavior suggests he views the presidency as optional once the political weather turns.

President Trump also has concrete reasons to stay.
Control of the executive branch still matters for appointments, regulatory decisions, foreign policy, and the shape of the 2028 primary.
Vice President J.D. Vance may be the current front-runner to succeed him, but Trump has never shown much interest in clearing the stage for anyone else on someone else’s timetable.

The midterms were a clear setback for Republicans, but they did not create the conditions for a presidential resignation.
The speed with which some on the left moved from “Democrats won seats” to “Trump might quit” is the more revealing development.
It suggests they now feel confident enough to treat the remaining two years of the term as little more than a countdown.
