This wouldn’t be the first time you’ll have a president, and he won’t have the House or the Senate. They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it, and eventually, after a month or two of getting all vetoed … you make a deal.”

The comments, taped Friday and released Monday, land as new polling shows Democrats with the upper hand in the battle for Senate control. Trump repeated his public confidence that Republicans will prevail but made clear his backup plan if they don’t: a legislative standoff that ends only when Democrats agree to his terms.
