Bride Wants Dreamy Balloon Photos, Nearly Gets Unscheduled Tour of the Bosphorus
ISTANBUL, Turkey — A bride posing beside Istanbul’s Bosphorus waterfront discovered that a giant balloon bouquet can double as a sail—and that a wedding dress is not particularly useful as an anchor.
Video circulating online shows the woman holding an enormous cluster of balloons during a bridal photo shoot when a gust catches the decorations and pulls her toward the waterfront.
The intended look was presumably romantic and whimsical. The wind submitted a different creative direction.
As the balloons tugged sideways, the woman struggled to maintain her footing near the seawall. She continued holding the bouquet while the scene rapidly shifted from wedding photography to an impromptu test of everyone’s reflexes.
There are plenty of things a bride might reasonably want to release on her wedding day: stress, family grievances, perhaps an unreasonable seating-chart request.
In this particular situation, the balloons were also a strong candidate.
According to Turkish outlet Haberler, the photographer stopped shooting and rushed to help, grabbing the woman before she could be pulled farther toward the water. The outlet reported that she was uninjured and later continued the session.
The footage makes for a dramatic spectacle, although descriptions suggesting she actually flew away overstate what is established. The visible predicament was a woman losing her balance and being pulled by wind-driven balloons—not a bride embarking on sustained flight.
Still, it is an unusual addition to a photographer’s responsibilities. Framing the shot, adjusting the exposure and preventing the client from departing by balloon is quite a package.
The woman’s identity was not established in the reporting reviewed for this story. Haberler described her as a social media influencer taking bridal photographs.
Fortunately, the session appears to have ended with the bride safely on land.
For future waterfront shoots, a smaller bouquet might be worth considering. Flowers, for example, have an excellent record of not attempting to drag the person holding them into a shipping lane.
